We are aware that this is a tough time to budget money for travel, but Biennial is much more than just a trip...it is a chance to invest in your Jewish self.
Many congregations are banding together to explore creative ways to make Biennial affordable. For example, you can:
- Start a Biennial 'lay away' plan. Congregants can contribute a monthly fixed sum to savings accounts dedicated to holding Biennial funds. Or congregations can take over the book keeping and hold funds contributed by members for the purpose of paying for Biennial.
- Look at alternative means of transportation- A number of congregations are looking into renting vans for members to use to drive up to Biennial rather than flying. Make it a road trip! (Visit the Travel Page for advice about parking.)
- Take advantage of early bird pricing, which provides a significant savings.
Please share your creative financing ideas by emailing them to biennial@urj.org. We can't wait to see what you are doing to make your way to Biennial.

Tax Deductibility Suggestion
Expenses incurred by synagogue leaders who attend Biennial as designated delegates of their congregations can be claimed as tax deductible charitable contributions.
Such expenses include registration, transportation, lodging, food, etc.
Along with original receipts, such claims should be substantiated with a letter from the synagogue president stating that the synagogue leader attended as a designated delegate on behalf of the congregation.
Please consult your tax advisor regarding the specifics of your situation.
